For this piece, I wanted to explore my relationship with mirrors as it relates to identity, time, and space. Mirrors are often symbolic for the multiplicity of the self, as they present alternate versions of ourselves once we step in front of them. However, once we step away, the image disappears. It is different from a camera, which can capture our likeness and immortalize it in the form of a video or photograph. To investigate this idea, I wanted to use a mirror that I actually use in my daily life and experiment with my camera and a projector. I recorded myself using my phone as a mirror while I brushed my teeth and washed my face, then I projected that video into the mirror inside of my bathroom. As a result, the moment I created was now embedded into the mirror, as were my physical features. Also, the projection became fragmented as the light passed through the mirror and reflected onto the bathroom walls, ceiling, and shower curtain. This showed the mirror's power to break through dimensions and fragment that which is brought before it, just as time, space, and my own identity are fragmented.
